Blog post 11: Implementation

What?
The final phase of my project focused on refining all the details of the prototype after I had gotten the second round of user testing feedback after refining it the first time. Minor things had to be changed such as some user interface aspects. The user interface feedback included some wording being too confusing for the feedback page instructions. Everything went pretty smoothly for this process as it was just finalisations.

I realised my lack of experience with emerging technologies created these challenges, which led to confusion and frustration. However, I knew that they were essential for my growth and as a designer. Collaborating and asking for help not only eased my challenges but also grew my understanding of the subject of interview anxiety and imposter syndrome.

The outcome was that even with challenges, with perseverance, I was able to complete the project and prepare for the showcase. I also gained more confidence in my ability to attend interviews as I was learning on the project.

So what?

This experience emphasises the importance of grit, which is a term I learnt recently in my elective course called innovation 203. Grit means “a combination of passion and perseverance used to achieve a long-term, challenging goal” (Duckworth, 2019). It suggests that stepping outside of my comfort zone can lead to personal and professional growth, even if the first stages are difficult. It also highlights that the feeling of overwhelm is a natural part of the learning process. In my past blog posts I have said that seeking help is very crucial so I would like to reiterate that by saying seeking help is a strengths rather than a weakness.

If I were to do this project again I would have started with a more structured research on the specific AR and AI tools I intended to use.

Since it is nearing the last week of the semester I will be reflecting on the past 12 weeks of my capstone course.

As it is nearing the last semester before I graduate I am having mixed feelings as my future is still uncertain. But hopefully this project will help me gain the confidence I need for securing a graduate role in the future. I am really grateful that I got to experience 4 years of university and learnt a lot of new and meaningful things. I am really grateful for everyone that has helped me throughout my journey.

Now what?

In the future I will start with a more thorough research focusing specifically on the AR and AI tools. This includes reading more documentation, finding pros and cons on the different softwares and exploring more case studies. By investing time in thorough initial research, i can minimise the confusion and enhance the understanding of the tools. This in turn would reduce stress associated with areas where I find difficult.

Furthermore, I need to consider my tendency to feel overwhelmed when faced with complex tasks and ensure that I break down my research and tasks into smaller chunks. I will also consider seeking feedback from peers or mentors early in the process as they can provide a different perspective.

To follow through sith my plan, I will create a detailed checklist for deadlines for my research adn development phases. I will also set reminders on my calendar to check in on my progress regularly. I found that regularly reflecting on my progress such as writing blogs every week was very helpful so I will keep doing this for my next projects.
